Workshop: EqIA: Minimise the Risk, Realise the Potential

On 30th March 2012 a joint NHS Centre for Equality and Human Rights and Welsh Local Government Association webinar event was held for public authorities in Wales. Hosted by Eve Piffaretti and Gareth Howells (Morgan Cole Solicitors) the day focussed on:

  • the importance of embedding equality considerations into decision making process from the beginning;
  • and being able to demonstrate that this is the case.

An online recording of the WebEx, together with copies of the presentations can be accessed from the web link opposite, entitled Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA): Minimise the Risk, Realise the Potential - A Legal Update.

There have been a number of high profile legal challenges to public bodies looking to make service changes and/or financial decisions. In these instances, the Courts have either overturned the organisation's decisions or instructed them to conduct a more robust EqIA and strengthen the consultation process. Morgan Cole Solicitors have produced a briefing in respect of case law, which can be downloaded from the web link opposite.
