Workshop F - Employee Engagement

Chris Sutton, Development Director, The Training Foundation

Organisational performance can vary massively dependent on the extent to which people’s hearts and minds are engaged. Regrettably, it seems current strategies are failing to make a difference. According to latest reports, employee engagement in the UK is at its lowest ever level. There must be a missing link.

This workshop will summarise recent research into employee engagement which indicates that six key drivers are now influencing today’s rapidly-changing employed community. The role played by the immediate line manager is shown to be pivotal if an HR strategy aimed at creating an employee-focused culture is to succeed in practice. Attendees will be introduced to an employee engagement Awareness Questionnaire for line managers aligned with the six key drivers.

Chris Sutton Biography

Chris joined The Training Foundation in 2007 from Birmingham Midshires, the UK’s premier specialist lender and top performing business in HBOS Retail, where he was Head of the award winning L&D team. His responsibilities included leadership development and talent management as well as delivering a learning culture.

Having thrice led the Birmingham Midshires team to top slot in the ‘best in-house training programmes’ category of the Financial Adviser Awards, Chris is steadfast in his belief that performance is achieved through people, and line managers play a pivotal role in recruitment, development and retention. Commitment to increasing leadership capability is therefore critical in delivering effective talent management and raising levels of employee engagement.
