Fulfilled Lives, Supportive Communities

The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) welcomes the production of a draft ten year strategy for social services in Wales and the inclusive approach adopted to produce it through strong partnership working with the WLGA. The opportunity for a wide and inclusive consultation period is appreciated and reflects the uniqueness of the relationship between central and local government in Wales.

Our response takes into account the emerging themes identified from two well attended listening events held by the Social Services Improvement Agency (SSIA) and from separate submissions from SOLACE, the Association of Directors of Education in Wales (ASEW) and the Association of Directors of Social Services in Wales (ADSS Cymru).

Response to Professor Michael Williams' Report - Mental Health Services in Wales

The Welsh Local Government Association submits this response to a discussion paper requested by the Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Health and Social Services and written by Professor Michael Williams.  The response represents the political, cross party view of the 22 councils in Wales and complements the professional response from the Association of Directors of Social Services in Wales.

The Association strongly rejects the principle of a single unified organisation for mental health and learning disability services in Wales.
