This publication updates the WLGA’s 2007 manifesto Let Government Commence and comes at a time of well documented severe economic and political turbulence.
For local government in Wales these are demanding and difficult times. Problems in some councils have been well publicised, the collaboration agenda has proven slower than anticipated and recent financial settlements have been very tough. One of our major partners, the NHS, is undergoing a major reorganisation and there are pressures on all public bodies to radically transform and reconfigure their services.
All this occurs against the backdrop of the worse economic recession for fifty years and an impending crisis in the public finances. This document will examine these themes in depth and offer local government response by addressing some of the big issues head on.
