Beverlea Frowen"Social services and health related services are integral to local government’s core functions. Councils in Wales are committed to improving the health and well being of communities and their workforce. The WLGA through its dedicated policy function for social services and the Social Services Improvement Agency (SSIA) offers a wide range of support to councils and works collaboratively with a range of professional bodies and partners. The WLGA also hosts the nationally funded Welsh Assembly initiative for improving commissioning for looked after children – the Children Commissioning Support Resource (CCSR).

A dedicated well established health improvement team funded by the Welsh assembly government, co ordinates the national local government response to health improvement and tackling the health inequalities and determinants of poor health through housing, leisure. Environmental planning and public protection functions. The ‘Route to Health Improvement’ it a national programme developed by the WLGA to maximise council’s contribution and the roll out of this programme is coordinated by the team.
