There were:

  • 25 nursery schools
  • 1,462 primary schools
  • 223 secondary schools
  • 43 special schools

Compared with 2009 figures there were:

  • 20 less schools

  • 275 less teachers

The total local authority net revenue expenditure for education services in Wales in 2010-11 is budgeted at £2,182 million.

The majority of schools in Wales are maintained by their local authority and have a direct relationship with their Council.
