In 2007 the Welsh Assembly Government provided a £3 million grant over 3 years to the WLGA for local authorities to develop innovative projects for school transport across Wales.
The aims of the grant were:
- To develop proposals that improve home to school transport
- To identify good practice in local authorities (in Wales and beyond) and furthering that good practice in Wales to raise standards
- To help local authorities to collaborate and work across boundaries, in particular with respect to the transport consortia, so that arrangements are efficient, effective and well planned
- To provide advice and intelligence to the grantor on policy and operations and developments in Wales and beyond
The use of the funding and the development of the projects has been overseen by the School Transport Project Board, which has representatives from local government, the Welsh Assembly Government and the WLGA. The programme is due to end in April 2011.
Twelve pilot projects have been set up across Wales using the funding from the programme and information about those projects can be found on the left hand side navigation bar.
