06 April 2003
Report to Co-ordinating Committee; April 2003.
On 3rd April 2003 the Secretary of State for Wales and the Assembly Minister for Finance, Local Government and Communities, jointly published a draft Public Audit (Wales) Bill. The bill outlines a number of proposals for new audit arrangements in Wales.
On 11th April the Welsh Affairs Committee of the House of Commons announced an inquiry into the draft bill and requested written evidence by 12th May. We have suggested this timetable is inappropriate to prepare adequately and hope that alternative arrangements can be put in place.
The purpose of this report is to outline the main proposals and agree a process for the most appropriate method of consultation with member authorities to ensure a coherent response can be submitted by the deadline on 27th June.
