“We welcome plans by the Assembly Government to simplify the NHS structure in Wales and believe it is the way forward for delivering lasting health improvement across Wales.
The NHS reforms offer considerable opportunities for everyone to work together to better serve our communities but local authorities are already beginning to bring about real improvements to long standing problems through joint partnership working and local service solutions and therefore these new arrangements must build on this progress.
The WLGA will continue to work with the Welsh Assembly Government and its NHS and local authority partners to ensure that citizen and community needs are put at the centre of the health and social care improvement agenda across Wales and that local government’s role is fully recognised as a key deliverer in terms of shaping healthy communities for the future.”
