WLGA welcomes Assembly plans to invest in improving public services

19 May 2009

The WLGA has welcomed the £60million of Invest- to- Save funding announced by Andrew Davies, Minister for Finance and Public Service Delivery this week to support the delivery of more effective and efficient public services.

Steve Thomas, WLGA Chief Executive said:

“We welcome this announcement of this fund to apply in the public sector in Wales for this year and 2010-11. Local authorities have been in dialogue with the Assembly Government in pressing for such a scheme which will provide councils with opportunities to explore the potential for further efficiency savings in the very tight financial climate for public finances. Over the coming months councils will be fully engaging in the bidding process as part of their commitment to delivering measurable improvements across core services.”
