WLGA responds to 'Welsh council workers assaulted at work'

23 January 2009

Cllr Gordon Kemp, WLGA Employment and Workforce Spokesperson said:

“Local authorities across Wales employ over 150,000 staff undertaking a large number of roles in wide-ranging services in many different locations, including private dwellings, at all times of the day. Some of these services involve working with vulnerable people. Local authorities are committed to ensuring that in the delivery of these essential services, upon which such people depend, hard-working and dedicated workforce is safe and protected from harm. Physical and verbal assaults upon council staff are unacceptable. Local authorities are therefore continually assessing risk to ensure that appropriate measures are in place to keep staff safe from harm in the workplace.”
