WLGA reaction to Unions stike action

30 June 2011

Cllr Peter Fox, WLGA Education Spokesperson said:

“Today's industrial action by the two teacher trade unions NUT and ATL over pensions is targeted towards Central and not local government with teachers’ pensions a matter decided by Central Government. In terms of the local authority response we have put in place contingency planning wherever possible and sought to minimise disruption. That said, it is inevitable that with the potential scale of the planned action we are going to see hundreds of Welsh schools closed or only partially open. Obviously the LEAs regret the problems that this will cause for parents and pupils. Parents should visit their local council website for the latest information.”
