WLGA leader crowned Councillor of the Year

10 December 2008

WLGA leader and leader of Pembrokeshire, Cllr John Davies was named ‘Councillor of the Year’ at the ITV Wales Politician of the Year Awards held in Cardiff last night.

Congratulating Cllr Davies on his award, Steve Thomas, WLGA Chief Executive said:

“On behalf of the Association I would like to warmly congratulate John on his well-deserved award. John is an excellent ambassador for local government in Wales, both in terms of his strong leadership as WLGA Leader and the work he carries out within his own local authority.”

“These are exceptionally difficult times for Welsh local authorities. The pressures to provide hundreds of vital everyday services are greater than ever yet the resources available to councils to deliver these services are slimmer than ever. Awards like these are important in recognising the significant role that councillors play in society in leading and providing for their communities.”
