WLGA committed to working with new Assembly Government to deliver improvement of local communities

12 May 2011

Following yesterday’s nomination for Carwyn Jones to be appointed as First Minister, WLGA Leader, Cllr John Davies (Pembrokeshire) said:

“On behalf of the entire Welsh local government family I warmly welcome the formation of the new Assembly Government, whilst at the same time paying tribute to those politicians who we say goodbye to, many of whom have made considerable contributions to local government in Wales over recent years.

The scale of the challenge facing Government in Wales, both national and local is significant. Local government is committed to facing these challenges with the new Government and working with the new Assembly administration to develop the partnerships needed for delivering a better Wales, by ensuring that our responses are fully integrated and harness the potential engagement and energy of our citizens and communities. Our election manifesto highlighted our commitment to delivering a strong and effective local government which can complement and balance a newly empowered National Assembly for Wales. With a Government in place, it’s now time for business.”
