Welsh council workers short listed for ‘council worker of the year’ award

06 May 2008

Two council workers in Wales have been short listed to take the crown of ‘council worker of the year’ under the Council Worker of the Year Awards 2008.

Steve Thomas, WLGA Chief Executive said:

“I would like to congratulate the two officers from Denbighshire and Flintshire on being short listed for this prestigious award. Council workers in Wales work in a challenging environment and are responsible for the critical daily services that communities rely upon. Their commitment and enthusiasm to the role is key to delivering better services that local communities can enjoy and benefit from.”

“There are many examples of council workers really reaching out to their communities and significantly impacting on people’s lives. These awards, combined with the WLGA’s own Excellence Wales awards Scheme give due recognition to the achievements and significant role of council workers in Wales. I am pleased that their extraordinary efforts and high performance are being recognised at a UK level.”
