Today, local government and voluntary sector partners from across the individual local authorities and voluntary councils in South West Wales play host to a ‘one stop shop’ for community groups who want to access free, up to date information and advice about funding opportunities.
National, regional and local funders from all across Wales are on hand during the first ever Regional Funding Fair to offer information and advice to community groups within the region who have specific funding requirements and to support them to better plan for their future.
The Fair is the result of a newly formed partnership between local authorities in the South West Region and their voluntary sector partners to progress collaboration across the public and voluntary sector.
Steve Thomas, WLGA Chief Executive said:
“Charities, community groups and voluntary organisations are a vital part of the physical, social and economical regeneration of our region. Local authorities across South West Wales have a history and track record of collaboration but delivering collaborative umbrella events such as this demonstrates the ability of the public and voluntary sectors to come together jointly and deliver. In line with the Beecham review, it is shows our acknowledgement of the need to simplify processes and information for our citizens.”
“With the nature of funding in Wales changing and with competition for grants increasing it is vital that community and voluntary groups have a full understanding of their working environment. Today’s event will support these groups to gain a better understanding of the regional and national funding opportunities available to them, what organisations and funders to contact and how to apply for potential funding.”
Gaynor Richards, Director Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service
"This is the first time the four County Voluntary Councils and the four local authorities have worked together on a regional joint venture. As individual organisations we have track records of working in partnership locally but this is really breaking new ground for all of us and can set the scene for future joint working regionally."
During today’s event national and regional funders, as well as a many other organisations, support groups, trusts and statutory bodies are available to discuss specific funding requirements, to provide immediate access to information on funding matters and to assist groups to develop their ideas.
