The WLGA today welcomed the findings of a survey of schools in Wales which confirms that in large schools are satisfied with the support and quality of service provided by their local council.
Cllr John Davies (Pembrokeshire), WLGA Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning said:
“Local authorities across Wales are committed to putting the educational needs of children and young people within their communities first. We have effective partnerships in place with schools and the wider education community across Wales and the results of today’s survey speak for themselves- our approaches are working. This feedback from schools is invaluable and compliments the ongoing local communication mechanisms that are already in place across Wales”.
He added:
“It is encouraging to see that the areas that local authorities have been working hard to improve, for example the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, have been recognised and praised by schools. A significant amount of work and funding has been invested in the promotion of healthy lifestyles and this is clearly having a positive impact on schools.”
“Effective leadership also scored well as did the provision of financial information from local authorities to schools. This is particularly welcomed in light of recent work that has been done to improve the clarity and access to financial information in line with the recommendations of the National Assembly for Wales School Funding Committee.”

Notes to Editors
• The Schools Survey 2007 was conducted in Wales by the Audit Commission on behalf of the Wales Audit Office and Estyn. The survey captures schools’ views and perceptions of their council’s services.
• The survey only represents half of the schools in Wales.
