Clean, Safe and Well Managed Streets

Maintaining a quality local environment is a key function of a local authority in the eyes of local people. Clean, safe and pleasant streets, attractive open spaces, well-maintained signs and street furniture are all seen as important. They contribute to a high quality and sound reputation for communities.

The good practice case studies were identified from applications addressing the following sub themes:

  • Public Satisfaction
Have you taken action to respond to public opinion in improving the ‘street scene’?
  • Safe Streets
Are you reducing crime, the fear of crime and antisocial behaviour within your communities?
  • Street Cleansing
Are you controlling the amount of refuse, litter, dog fouling and fly tipped
waste on your streets? (E.g. enforcement action.)
  • Underage Sales
Are you developing ways to tackle underage / inappropriate sales of alcohol and other restricted products?
  • Street Scene
Do you have a co-ordinated approach to the delivery of front-line street maintenance services?
  • Road & Traffic Management
Are you managing your town centre/street traffic non-highways) in an effective and safe way?
