Objectives

The overall aim of the European Office is:

“to provide an added value to Welsh local government in European issues and to promote its interests within Europe and Internationally”.

The Office provides Welsh local authorities with an “eyes and ears” information and intelligence service on the activities and policy developments of the European Union’s Institutions. The Office is an important link between Welsh authorities and the European Institutions, facilitating relationships and communication on local government’s needs, proposals and responses to key decision-makers. Additionally the Office also plays an important role in helping local authorities create strategic transnational partnerships.

The objectives of the Office are focused on:

  • Providing a comparative advantage to Welsh local government with regards to Europe;
  • Increasing engagement of local authorities with Europe, and Europe to local authorities;
  • Profiling Welsh local government in Europe and vice versa;
  • Advocacy and monitoring a range of policy priorities in order to focus WLGA’s lobbying efforts;
  • Networking on behalf of local authorities at a European level; and
  • Providing a clear added value and synergy with WLGA’s corporate services.
