Public sector to be hit by second wave of recession, says major new study

Wales has been hit sharply by the global recession and before 2011 when the private sector is predicted to show signs of economic recovery, a second, more severe wave of jobs losses is expected to hit Wales, this time affecting the public sector in particular.

During the WLGA’s Annual Conference in Swansea today, researchers OldBell3 have highlighted the key findings of a major piece of research commissioned by the WLGA to examine the effect of the recession across Wales’ communities. The researchers have also outlined their economic predictions for the next few years and suggested ways for supporting local authorities to stimulate sustainable economic recovery.
