The Wales Charter for Member Support and Development has been created to give structure and impetus to the growing body of support services for elected members within Welsh local government. These services take the form of
- personal, role, skill and knowledge development
- support facilities
- support services.
The Charter provides a broad framework for local planning, self-assessment, action and review and will also encourage networking and comparison amongst authorities and the sharing of good and innovative practice.
The Charter was formally launched at the Association's conference in October 2005 and since then authorities have formally committed to the principles in the charter by signing the statement of intent to apply and working towards meeting the challenging criteria.
The advanced charter is being developed to take account of the changing landscape for member support and development emerging from the Local Government (Wales) Measure.
