The key theme in the management and style of the WLGA is the political imperative given by members. This ensures that the WLGA is seen as the primary voice of Welsh local government and provides a clear political interface with the Welsh Assembly Government, UK Government and other bodies. The main member structures within the WLGA are:
Council
Consisting of 79 members, including at least two from each member authority, the Council meets four times a year, discussing strategic policy, appointing the senior office holders, including the Leader, Presiding Officer and Spokespeople, and agrees the budget of the WLGA.
Co-ordinating Committee
The Co-ordinating Committee includes the 22 leaders of each local authority, and a joint representative from each of the associate member authorities. The Co-ordinating Committee meets four times per year and carries out the executive function of the WLGA.
Management Sub Committee
Management Sub-Committee, consisting of group leaders and presiding officers, meets on an ad hoc basis to determine matters of an administrative or managerial matter.
