02 February 2011
Cllr Chris Holley (Swansea), WLGA Spokesperson on Europe and Regeneration, has met with delegates from across Europe to lobby for continued EU Funding to support some of Wales’ most deprived communities.
Representing Welsh local government at the Fifth Cohesion Forum in Brussels Cllr Holley (Swansea) said:
“It is essential that Welsh local government is represented in this Forum so that our concerns and key messages are heard. There is still much to play for in the discussions surrounding the future direction of EU Cohesion Policy, which has huge implications for the future allocation of EU funds post-2013. It is vital that Wales’ most deprived communities continue to receive adequate support from EU regional development, which is now more important than ever given the harsh economic realities facing local government. Over the next few months we will continue to represent the interests of Welsh local government on this important issue .”
