It is highly likely that Local Government in Wales is entering a period of financial contraction. There will be less resource available for Councils to meet a growing demand for higher quality services. Finding these efficiency savings has been a routine activity in local government for many years and what is clear is that living within their means and not placing an undue burden on the local tax payer is the key driver in seeking efficiencies.
Councils place significant effort in:
• Doing the same for less;
• Doing more for the same; or
• Doing a lot more for a little more
The WLGA seeks to support Councils in achieving these outcomes. In understanding the scale of the efficiency challenge the WLGA works through mechanisms such as the Local Authority Regional Partnership Boards and with individual authorities to support them in their change management processes.
