The Assembly and the WLGA agreed that a jointly-commissioned independent appraisal of the activity and contribution of the team was an important part of future funding considerations. The review has been undertaken in line with an agreed Terms of Reference and designed primarily to provide an assessment of the team’s effectiveness in meeting the broad aims and purposes for which it was established.
In addition, the report considers:
- the likely demand for support to local government and LHBs across the health & well-being agenda in the future;
- the capacity of the team to manage that likely demand
- options for delivery mechanisms for that support; and
- future funding options
The Assembly is currently undertaking an important review of the functionalities of a number of national health organisations across Wales. In delivering this appraisal of the WLGA work and perspectives on future delivery of support to local government etc, there has been liaison and discussion with Assembly officials and the review team from the Public Health Research Team.
