The WLGA’s Health Improvement Team works in a way that reflects the breadth of influences on health & well-being – utilising the full range of functions provided by the WLGA, and partnering with external agencies to best promote ‘better local government’ and support authorities in their effort to improve health & well-being.
The Health Improvement Team’s prime purposes are to:
- Support local government in its efforts to improve the health and well-being of its communities by working at the national, regional and local level.
- Facilitate collaboration across local government and with the public health agencies; the NHS and other agencies, to support implementation of national and local strategies.
- Assist service improvement and change at a national, regional and local level by harnessing and providing information on notable practice.
- Represent local government views to central government and assist in the development and implementation of national policies.
Key themes for for the Health Improvement Team are:
- enhancing localism through the development of local authorities' community leadership and co-delivery roles for health and well-being improvement
- enabling tangible change by supporting improvement through the development ans use of evidence, policy and applications
- developing strategic environments by helping to create the best conditions for improving health outcomes through national, regional and local strategic action
- connecting agendas by collaborating to ensure sustainable action and policy development in order to tackle the legacy of ill-health and health inequalities.
