Futures Trends

The WLGA are working with local councils and their partners to explore the impact of future social, environmental and economic trends on community needs and service provision in the longer term. In 2008 we published a report on futures trends and horizon scanning. This report provides an overview of the trends and drivers identified by government, business and civil society up to 2040; and poses some questions for local authorities to think about in the light of these trends.

Futures Master-Class Resources

‘Futures’ master-classes for local authority Members and Senior Managers were held in March 2009. Delegates were provided with an overview of the potential impacts of a range of future trends on Welsh communities, including: global-local economy tension; energy security; food security; climate change adaptation; the need to move to zero waste; carbon reduction; obesity and health. A series of Futures information sheets and scenarios were developed for the workshops - in support of the Futures Trends and Horizon Scanning report - and are available via the links below.
