European Policy Priorities

Europe is constantly evolving. A number of specific challenges over the next few years are highly relevant to local authorities, for example, dealing with an enlarged European Union, the reform of the Regional and Agricultural Policy, and the future of EU funding post-2013. As a result the main focus of the WLGA European Office is on the following policy areas:

  • Cohesion and Regional Policy
  • Competition and State Aids
  • Education and Culture
  • Environment and Energy - including waste
  • EU Economic Development Strategy
  • Health and Social Affairs
  • Information and Communication Technologies
  • Internal Market – including public procurement and services of general interest
  • Interregional Working - including Interreg and Regions of Economic Change
  • Rural Development and Agriculture – including CAP and Fisheries
  • Transport – including TENs
