Europe is constantly evolving. A number of specific challenges over the next few years are highly relevant to local authorities, for example, dealing with an enlarged European Union, the reform of the Regional and Agricultural Policy. As a result the main focus of the WLGA European office is on the following policy areas:

- Rural Development and Agriculture – including CAP and Fisheries
- Interregional working - including Interreg and Regions of Economic Change
- Transport – including TENs
- Environment – including waste
