EU Economic Development Strategy

Europe 2020 Strategy

In November 2009, the European Commission published its proposal for a Europe 2020 Strategy. Through the strategy, the Commission aims to strengthen the EU following the global financial crisis, while speeding up the move towards a smart and green economy.

On 21 December 2009, the WLGA responded to the Commission's consultation on the proposed Europe 2020 Strategy. The WLGA has also fed in comments to assist partner organisations in formulating their respective responses to the Commission's consultation:

The Europe 2020 Strategy targets were adopted by Heads of State during the European Council meeting on 25-26 March 2010. The WLGA European Office will closely monitor developments in this area and inform colleagues and partners on a regular basis.

EU Budget Review

In January 2011, Cllr Chris Holley, WLGA Spokesperson on Europe and Regeneration, sent a letter to Commissioner Lewandowski, responsible for EU Budgetary Policy. The letter concerns the EU Budget Review and some key messages for the next financial perspective from local government in Wales:
