Disability Equality in Welsh Local Government

06 January 2004

Report to Co-ordinating Committee; January 2004.

The report highlights the Government’s proposals to extend the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) in the draft Disability Discrimination Bill. It also seeks commitment from local authorities to reviewing their preparations for changes to the DDA coming into force later this year and to work in accordance with the principles of the Social Model of Disability. The report also seeks endorsement of new guidance for local authorities published by the LGA on developing Access Strategies as a mechanism for improving access and highlights work undertaken during European Year of Disabled People.
