The Impact of Recession Across Wales

04 August 2009

The key aims of the research were to:

  • Develop an understanding of the impact of the recession to date on the Welsh economy using a variety of quantitative data as well as qualitative information held by the 22 local authorities;
  • Provide estimates of likely employment change over the period 2008-10 at an all Wales and at a regional level;
  • Compile details of measures being taken by authorities to assist businesses and communities and highlight good practice; and
  • Make recommendations on short, medium and long term actions for authorities and other agencies such as the Welsh Assembly Government, with a view to achieving rapid and sustainable recovery and alleviation of hardship.
