This Network has been established following a number of important changes to the equality agenda over the past few years, with strengthened legislation and specific duties placed on public authorities. Over the next few years there will be further changes to the infrastructure concerning equality, such as the establishment of a Commission for Equality and Human Rights, the possibility of a Single Equality Act and the outcome of the UK Government sponsored Equalities Review. The Network is an opportunity for Elected Members to collectively reflect and consider how Equality Champions can ensure that equality issues are embedded and influence planning and decision making processes in Welsh Local Government.
