'Better Housing Services' Toolkits

The Toolkits have been developed by the WLGA to assist Local Authorities to improve the quality of their housing services. They provide a flexible template to assist with service review, identifying risk and developing an improvement plan. The Toolkits have been developed for four key housing services; homelessness and housing advice, housing repair and improvement, the strategic housing function and managing the supporting people programme.

They have been developed to link into each other and to other frameworks including the performance measurement framework for local government in Wales and the Wales Programme for Improvement (WPI) and the equality standard.

In developing the toolkits pilots were undertaken within four local authorities (Carmarthenshire, Conwy, Denbighshire and Merthyr Tydfil) and feedback has been very positive.

‘There was a much more positive and open response from staff than is normally the case for audit or inspection’

‘The toolkits have helped us to change the way aspects of the service are delivered, to better meet the expectations of our stakeholders’

‘We have used the findings successfully to make the case for more funding and staffing resources’

Launch of the Toolkits: 16.11.2007 (Presentations)
