Do you want to become a councillor and help shape the future of your local community?
Welcome to the WLGA website for people interested in standing as councillors in the 2012 Local Elections.
Here you can find a range of information and links which will help you understand what councillors and councils do and how you can apply. This information may also be available in printed form from your local authority Electoral Services department.
An online version of the ‘Be a Councillor’ guide which is available via your local authority, is also available from the menu on the left. The other sections in the menu provide supplementary, more detailed information which is not included in the guide. This online information will be updated as appropriate in the run-up to the elections.
The ‘Guide for Businesses’ is aimed at small and medium-sized employers to encourage them to support staff who are already councillors, or who are thinking of standing for council. If you are considering standing as a candidate and would like to discuss the matter with your employer, you might like to use the information in your discussions.
