Arts & culture

If sport and physical activity contribute to a health body, then participation in arts and culture are essential to maintain a healthy mind. Local government plays a pivotal role in providing a range of arts and cultural activities, facilities and services including libraries, museums and galleries.

Arts and Culture make an important contribution to the regeneration of communities. Cultural events such as the National Eisteddfod or Brecon Jazz Festival can contribute significantly to the local economy and attract an increased number of visitors to the area.

The WLGA has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Arts Council of Wales to ensure the promotion and support of arts events and activities continues. The Association also works closely with CyMAL to help develop high standards of provision through our museums, archives and libraries. The WLGA is a member of the newly created Culture Board for Wales.
