Councillors and Councils

Beacouncillor main

Here you can find a range of information and links which will help you understand what councillors and councils do and how you can apply. This information may also be available in printed form from your local authority electoral services department.

An online version of the ‘Be a Councillor’ guide which is available via your local authority, is also available from the menu on the left. The other sections in the menu provide supplementary and more detailed information which is not included in the guide.

The ‘Guide for Businesses’ is aimed at small and medium-sized employers to encourage them to support staff who are already councillors, or who are thinking of standing for council. If you are considering standing as a candidate and would like to discuss the matter with your employer, you might like to use the information in your discussions.

Political Parties in Wales

The Independent Group on the Local Government Association can provide information for independent councillors and candidates.
